FATE OF NAMMA KANNADA
Whom to blame? Blame us native speakers!
Anyway, blame games don’t work, the only thing we can do is to use more of our mother tongue, it’s not only about Kannada ! any language for that matter is diluted with English vocabulary, but people who speak Kannada are highly influenced with languages of various demographics
- Northern parts of Karnataka are influenced by Marathi
- Few Western parts of Karnataka are influenced by Malayalam
- Few Northeastern parts are influenced by Telugu
- South-eastern parts with Tamil and Telugu
- Not forgetting Hindi!
- Southern parts as whole with influences of Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam and Urdu speakers both in North and South Karnataka
All these are quite concerning, but we can see the purest slang of Kannada being spoken in Hassan districts , that’s because this place has less external influence of the languages spoken in other states as it is located internally, However the days are not far for it to get diluted as well. Whenever it comes to mother, language, state, and country people always defend and fight for its respect but native people of Karnataka are loosing this quality of defending their mother tongue, they themselves believe speaking Kannada to be a taboo, and look down on people who speak Kannada.
It’s our pride to speak and behave in our own way but instead people are in delusion and are adapting Hindi and English and only believe that people who know English and Hindi are well cultured .
Solution!? Blame!?
Nothing works, I’m repeating that nothing works until we speak and use it in our day to day conversations.
I know in various situations we must use different languages to communicate but it’s surely hard to see and digest the fact that two native Kannada speakers converse in English or some other languages.
I don’t want to criticize any other people here, it’s purely our problem! I respect all the dialects of Kannada including Tulu, Konkani, Kodava, at least people should Converse in this, if both are aware of it why need English?!

PS: I could’ve written this in Kannada, but this is for other people to understand, there’s a Kannada version coming shortly and this article is open to criticisms and grammatical corrections.
